How does a self check-in kiosk work in a hotel?
A guest finds the reservation by booking reference, name or QR code, presents a passport or national ID which the kiosk reads via MRZ/OCR and, for e-passports, RFID, confirms or settles payment, completes registration fields required by the property, and receives an encoded room-key card and printed receipt. The kiosk exchanges the reservation and key data with the hotel PMS through an integration built by your software team or partner using MHY SDKs/APIs.
Can the kiosk read passports and encode room-key cards?
Yes. MHY kiosks integrate ICAO Document 9303 compatible passport/ID readers with MRZ/OCR and RFID for e-passports, plus motorized or dispenser-style RFID/magnetic key-card encoders, payment modules, signature capture and receipt printers. The exact modules are configured to the PMS and key-card system the property uses.
Does the kiosk integrate with our PMS and key-card system?
MHY supplies hardware on Windows, Android or Linux with documented SDKs and APIs for the passport reader, key encoder, payment and printer, and supports joint debugging. The PMS-facing application is typically provided by your software team or an integration partner; kiosk-mode lockdown and pre-loaded images keep the lobby terminal secure.
Can hotel kiosks be branded and used for check-out as well?
