Passport Reader FAQ

What documents can MHY passport readers scan?
MHY readers read ICAO 9303 machine-readable passports and travel documents via full-page OCR/MRZ, plus national ID cards, visas, driving licenses and other standard-size identity documents. RFID models additionally read e-passport chip data, and UV/IR imaging supports document authentication workflows.
Do the readers come with an SDK for system integration?
Yes. A full SDK with APIs, sample code and demo tools is provided for Windows and Linux, over USB HID/CDC and RS-232 interfaces. Integrators connect the readers to property-management, airline check-in, visitor-management, border-control and access-control platforms, and our software engineers support joint debugging during integration.
Can a passport reader be embedded into a self-service kiosk?
Yes. Besides desktop units, MHY supplies kiosk-mounted document readers designed for flush panel integration, and builds complete self-service check-in and visitor kiosks combining the reader, camera, signature pad, payment and key-card dispenser — integrated, aged and tested as a single device in our factory.
Are RFID and UV/IR authentication standard on every model?
No — MRZ/OCR reading is standard, while RFID e-passport chip reading and UV/IR anti-counterfeit imaging are configuration options. Tell your sales engineer which document types and verification level your project requires, and we will recommend the correct model and BOM.
Can we buy readers under our own brand?
Yes. MHY supports OEM housing colors, silk-screen logos, boot/firmware branding, custom packaging and quantity-based private-label pricing. Single evaluation samples are available before volume commitments.
